Cheeky cast! The stars of Downton Abbey poked fun of themselves for the show's press picture that featured a huge historical mistake (that darn water bottle!) earlier this week. In response, the whole gang got together for a much bigger photo-op — and boy, were they thirsty!
"The cast of #Downton embraced 'water bottle-gate' today," the show's official Instagram captioned on Friday, Aug. 15. "#DowntonAbbey #wH2oops." In the pic, 17 cast members of the period drama held plastic water bottles and wore modern clothes while looking as if they've just gotten in trouble.
The message also shared a link, noting that the cast has put their "water bottle-gate" blunder to good use. "After seeing the reaction the picture caused earlier this week, the cast and crew came up with the idea of turning some of this attention towards an issue around water that really matters," a spokesperson stated on the WaterAid.org site.

"They hope that by posing for this picture they will be able to raise awareness and amplify the work of international charity."
The hilarious error occurred in a press release image that featured characters Earl of Grantham (Hugh Bonneville) and Edith Crawley (Laura Carmichael) standing in front of a fireplace for the PBS show's upcoming fifth season. Behind them, a plastic water bottle was noticeably visible on the mantle.
